Reliance Jio is looking to partner with several smartphone brands to launch ‘Jio Exclusive’ phones in India. Essentially, the company will provide users with smartphones from companies like Vivo, Lava, and Karbonn with discounted prices and benefits such as OTT subscriptions, shopping benefits, and one-time screen replacements, ET Telecom reports. However, the ‘Jio exclusive’ smartphones will only work with a Reliance Jio SIM card installed. Although Jio is yet to acknowledge this scheme officially, sources familiar with the matter have told ET Telecom that such an arrangement is already in the works.

Jio has seemingly already partnered with Vivo for Jio exclusive smartphones. Vivo launched the Vivo Y1s in India last week that comes with a Jio lock-in offer that provides benefits worth Rs 4,550 by recharging Rs 249 or above. The report also suggests that ‘Jio Exclusive’ smartphones will be priced under Rs 8,000 as the telco is looking to convert Jio Phone users. Companies like Lava and Karbonn already offer entry-level Android smartphones, and reducing their prices further by partnering with Jio seems like a win-win situation.

Reliance Jio has already partnered with a Chinese firm iTel to sell low-cost smartphones for Rs 3000-4000. The new initiative could likely be an expansion of this plan. With the launch of the Vivo Y1s, Jio exclusive phones have now started to make their way to the Indian market and we expect to see more devices launch soon. In addition to Jio exclusive phones, we also await the launch of affordable Jio 4G smartphones powered by Google’s Android platform.
